Greg Hocking
Born: Melbourne. Studies: Melbourne University, Carlo Felice Cillario, and Geoffrey Arnold. Operatic repertoire: Falstaff, Un Ballo in Maschera, Il Trovatore, Nabucco, Turandot, La Traviata for Melbourne Opera and at the Fiesole Festival, Italy, Rigoletto, Carmen, The Pearl Fishers, The Magic Flute, Cosi fan Tutte, Don Giovanni, Tosca, Madama Butterfy, L’Elisir d’Amore, Die Fledermaus, The Merry Widow, La Boheme, Barber of Seville, The Italian Girl in Algiers, Suor Angelica, Cavalleria Rusticana, The Marriage of Figaro and many of the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. Greg prepared and conducted Melbourne Opera’s inaugural season of La Traviata, The Pearl Fishers, and The Magic Flute, and its 2004 season of Madama Butterfy, Rigoletto, and Cosi fan Tutte. In 2004 he conducted Traviata in Fiesole and returned to Rome for concerts later in the year. In 2005 he conducted Don Giovanni, Die Fledermaus and Messiah for Melbourne Opera. Since 2006 he has conducted many opera productions, as well as the St John Passion and an all-Mozart concert for Melbourne Opera. Greg is a founding Director of Melbourne Opera. He also founded the Universal Theatre, the Comedy Club, and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Greg is a theatrical producer in his spare time, with extensive credits ranging from Wogs out of Work to Beckett directs Beckett and is reponsible for Australian concert tours of many famous artists including Yehudi Menuhin, Mstislav Rostropovich, Roger Woodward, Ivo Pogorelich, Sir George Martin and Elvis Costello. |
